Tour schedules, royalty negotiations – all of these things are not as enjoyable as writing and performing music, but they are incredibly useful in completely different areas of your life. Even completely detached musicians, for whom comfort means little, sooner or later have to deal with the business side of their musical career – whether it is deciding how to finance an upcoming recording of an album or negotiating a percentage with a record label. Serious musicians know very well that their every step and every decision is heavily dependent on money. This is why business skills are so important. They can help protect yourself from a bad contract when buying, for example, an apartment in the future, or calculate the savings that you will need for other important acquisitions.
